Studio maternity portrait in royal blue against a black backdrop by Ken Floyd Media

Maternity

Indianapolis Maternity Photographer

Ken Floyd Media photographs maternity sessions in Indianapolis and central Indiana. Much of the work happens in the studio, on a black backdrop with warm, directional light that turns a portrait into something closer to a painting. Location sessions are on the table too, in the places that matter to you.

This season, on record

Maternity portraits with drama and calm.

A maternity session should feel slower than a normal shoot, and we pace it that way. Poses build gradually, the light is shaped around your silhouette, and nothing is rushed. The black backdrop strips away every distraction, so what is left in the frame is you, this season, held in warm light. It is a dramatic, editorial look, and it flatters.

Maternity is one of the core sessions in our portrait photography, alongside personal branding and family work, so you can see the studio style across the full body of portraits.

Partners and older kids

Bring the family into a few frames.

Plenty of maternity sessions end with a partner or older kids stepping into the light, and we plan time for that. Family sessions are part of the same portrait practice, so those frames get the same care as the solo portraits: real direction, honest expressions, and light that does the flattering for everyone. If the session should grow into a full family set, say so in the contact form and we will build the time in.

Questions

Maternity sessions, answered.

When should I schedule a maternity session?
Most maternity portraits are photographed somewhere between 28 and 34 weeks, when the bump is fully present and a session on your feet is still comfortable. Every pregnancy runs differently, so book for the window that feels right to you.
Do sessions happen in the studio or on location?
Both. Studio sessions are shot on a black backdrop with warm, directional light for a dramatic, editorial look. Location sessions happen anywhere in Indianapolis and central Indiana.
What should I wear?
Fitted or flowing pieces in solid colors photograph beautifully against the black backdrop, and fabric with movement comes alive under directional light. Bring a couple of options and we will work through them during the session.
Can my partner or kids join the session?
Yes. Family sessions are part of our portrait work, so we plan time for frames with a partner or older kids alongside the solo portraits.
How do I book a maternity session?
Reach out through the contact form with your due date and the kind of session you have in mind, and we will follow up about the details. You can also message the studio on Facebook or Instagram at kenfloydmedia.
